Our website provides three possible authentication methods to use. You will need to set up at least one of them if you wish to use MFA.

In the below screenshot, the verification method selected is to use an authenticator app. These can be found on the Google and Apple stores.

Google Play Store

The Google Play Store provides the Google and Microsoft authenticator apps:

You can either register with the app by scanning in a QR code or by manually entering the provided code (see right of below image). Scanning the QR code is the easiest and quickest method.

When the app is set up on your mobile device, you will be prompted to enter a code wihich will be displayed inside the authenticator app. Enter the code and click the Next button.

A set of recovery codes will be displayed. These allow you to login to your account even if your selected MFA methods are unavailable. These codes need to be downloaded and stored in a secure place which you can access easily.

When you have saved your codes, click the Finish button.

The Multi-Factor Authentication set up is now complete. Click the Continue button.

Managing MFA settings

When you open your profile and click the Edit tab, you will see a button labelled MFA Settings. Clicking on this allows you to manage your authentication methods. You can add new ones, set the default method and remove methods.

You will be prompted to verify who you are:

Enter your HPF password and click the Verify button:

The next screen provides:

  • Which methods you have setup;
  • Which method is your default method;
  • A reset button which allows you to set up the method again;
  • A button for adding other authentication methods.

Add another method

Click the Add another MFA method button. The following screen will only show two authentication methods as one has already been set up. Select one of the methods – in this instance the email code method has been selected.

Enter your email address and click the Next button.

A code will be emailed to the address entered and you will be prompted for the code. Locate the email (it should arrive within a minute) and enter the code in the email into the field and click the Next button.

The new method is now set up. Click the Continue button.

You can see the new method is now displayed. You can set it to be the default method by clicking the Set as default method link.

Remove a method

If you click the Remove link, you will be prompted to remove the authentication method. To complete this process, click the Remove method button.

If you remove all authentication methods, MFA will be disabled. This means that when you login next time, you will only need to enter your email address and password, not additional security methods for login will be needed.
