Action urged to strengthen public health
It’s ‘Global Public Health Week’ (GPHW) this week, and today is World Health Day!
Join us in helping to raise awareness about global health issues and the vital role of public health, and to promote actions that can improve public health and wellbeing worldwide.
For decades, public health has served as the “invisible guardian” of global health. The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted its importance, but the risk of losing momentum post-pandemic remains high.
GPHW aims to:
• Make public health visible and valued to ensure it remains a priority.
• Promote emergency preparedness to prevent future pandemics.
• Facilitate global knowledge-sharing to improve public health in diverse contexts.
The week’s theme ‘Redefining Equity: Decolonizing Public Health for a Healthier World’ underscores the importance of inclusivity and fairness in public health systems worldwide.
This year’s discussions centre on:
• Decolonizing public health practices to address historical and systemic inequities.
• Promoting health equity by recognizing diverse cultural and social contexts.
• Reimagining global health strategies to build a fairer, healthier future.
GPHW is more than a week-long event—it’s a global movement.
By participating, you can contribute to a stronger, more equitable public health framework that protects and promotes wellbeing for all.
