Webishop to discuss health concerns among Asians in NZ
Register now and join us on October 16 for an engaging and interactive webishop to discuss the recently released ‘Asian Health in Aotearoa Report 2024’.
The report, which has revealed some worrying health trends among Asian communities in Aotearoa, confirms the need to avoid complacency or assumptions about the health of Asian peoples in Aotearoa.
Despite some progress, there is still insufficient policy and programming for the specific health challenges of the Asian population, which is the fastest growing group of ethnicities in NZ.
Many of the trends predicted during earlier work on the health of Asian peoples in Aotearoa in the 2000s have come to pass. Some worrying trends include higher obesity rates, inadequate nutrition, lower levels of physical activity, poor access to primary health care and higher rates of ethnic discrimination.
Speakers, Vishal Rishi, Director of The Asian Network Incorporated, (TANI), and the report’s lead author Dr Dr Zhenqiang Wu, will explore with participants how health promoters and other health professionals can contribute to address the health and wellbeing of these diverse communities.
“The report is the most comprehensive yet,” said Vishal Rishi, director of TANI. “It sheds lights on a number of critical issues that require attention to improve Asian health outcomes.”
