The ‘Kuala Lumpur Call to Action on Planetary Health’ was launched at the 2024 Planetary Health Annual Meeting (PHAM) and summit in Malaysia in April 2024.

Organised by the Planetary Health Alliance alongside Sunway University and the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health, the meeting was attended by about 1000 participants from 63 countries.

The call to action aims to accelerate action in pursuit of the just, global transition needed to safeguard a liveable future for generations to come.

It also mobilizes a global community to carry out the steps outlined in the first-ever Planetary Health Roadmap and Action Plan, the culmination of a year’s worth of work by 100 contributors from around the world, including HPF’s Executive Director, Sione Tu’itahi who was a member of the editorial advisory group.

The Bangkok Charter for Health Promotion in a Globalized World

An international document that builds on the Ottawa Charter is the Bangkok Charter for Health Promotion in a Globalised World developed in Bangkok on 11 August 2005.

The Bangkok Charter identifies actions, commitments and pledges required to address the determinants of health in a globalized world through health promotion.

The Charter affirms that policies and partnerships to empower communities, and to improve health and health equality, should be at the centre of global and national development. It complements and builds upon the values, principles and action strategies of health promotion established by the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion and the recommendations of the subsequent global health promotion conferences which have been confirmed by Member States through the World Health Assembly.
