Health Promotion Lead – Māori

Health Promotion Forum of New Zealand/ Runanga Whakapiki Ake i te Hauora o Aotearoa (HPF)

Location: Virtual Office 

As we embrace the virtual realm and adapt to 'work from anywhere' settings, we are seeking a health promoter with proven experience to lead our work with Māori, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a virtual setting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, problem-solving ability, and engagement with diverse population groups, while embodying a service-oriented leadership approach and maintaining integrity and professionalism. The candidate must have whakapapa Māori.

Advanced knowledge of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori, Matauranga Māori, familiarity with Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the Ottawa Charter, and experience in teaching health promotion are essential requirements. A degree in health promotion or public health, or its equivalent, with practical experience, is strongly preferred. A driver's licence and flexibility for occasional travel and varied hours are advantageous.

Purpose of Position 

To lead and facilitate  HPF’s work on health promotion education and training, especially our workforce development programme, with an emphasis on activities which improve the health of Māori. Considering the evolving technological landscape and the shift to ‘work from anywhere’ settings, online learning will be the primary mode for training the health promotion workforce and its sector. However, when needs arise, and proven to be more effective, in-person training and meetings will be held. 

Position Overview:

Working in the virtual reality is increasing. The Health Promotion Forum of New Zealand has fully integrated to this setting, whilst retaining options for physical office attendance. This role will lead the development of online courses and organising of workshops (online and in person) and provide strategic advice on Māori health promotion to external partners and stakeholders.
